06 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
07 - ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
08 - ¼ cup cream cheese, softened

10 - ½ teaspoon paprika

12 - ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
13 - ½ teaspoon salt

# How to make it:

04 - Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased 8x8-inch casserole dish.
05 - Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the top.
06 - Bake for 25–30 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and golden on top.
07 - Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It tastes decadent enough for company but honest enough for a weeknight when you're tired and hungry.
  • The whole thing comes together in under an hour, and most of that time the oven does the work while you rest.
  • Leftovers stay creamy and delicious for three days, which means meal prep basically does itself.
02 -
  • Don't skip the sautéing step for onion and garlic—raw onion will taste sharp and unpleasant, no matter how good everything else is.
  • The cream cheese is there to stabilize the sauce and prevent it from curdling or breaking, so make sure it's softened before you mix, or you'll end up with lumps.
03 -
  • If you want extra flavor depth, grate some Parmesan over the top before baking—it adds a sharp, salty note that plays beautifully against the mild cheddar.
  • Cook your chicken gently in broth instead of boiling it harshly; poached chicken stays more tender and absorbs subtle flavor that makes the whole dish taste more refined.
